Did NBC Heroes really have some blatant product placements?

Yes, of course and this fact was visible in many
NBC Heroes episodes.

As the last season of Heroes got over recently, we can discuss some of the episodes in which the product placement was quite awkward.

For instance, in the first episode of season 2, the cheerleader Claire Bennet was given a Nissan Rogue by her father. She utters the word Rogue quite easily, as if she had known the car for quite some time.

But in fact, the Rogue was one of the latest launches of Nissan, in those days and even the audience was not aware of the name.

I was wondering how much Nissan must have paid to the show for the name to be uttered!!

In a season 3 episode, Hiro Nakamura was seen sitting in his office with an Apple iMac just behind him. Weird placement, isn’t it?

But the worst product placement was seen in the two hour season premiere, when detective Matt Parkman wakes up to find himself in a desert and asks the locals if he can make a call.

One of the locals tells Parkman, “No service here. Should have gone with Sprint.” Sprint is a US based service provider and one of the sponsors of Heroes. Such a blatant publicity stunt was pretty difficult to digest!!

In another episode, one of the characters is making a call in Ireland and the front of her cell phone shows the glowing yellow logo of Sprint. I have often wondered which promotion could be more costly: uttering the brand name or making the logo visible!!

However, inserting a product in the storyline is quite difficult for the writers. The product has to properly blend with the storyline.

Besides, proper care should be taken that the product does not get blatantly placed in the drama, as this creates an awkward situation.
