Sendhil Ramamurthy is an American actor who was born to Indian parents of Tamil origin. Both his parents are physicians with his father being an anesthesiologist, and his mother is a neonatologist. He has one sister who is also a physician and is pursuing a residency program in combined internal medicine and psychiatry. Though born in Chicago, Sendhil was bought up in San Antonio, Texas where he attended the Keystone School. He then attended the Tufts University where he initially joined as a pre-med major to follow in his parents’ footsteps, but soon discovered his passion for acting when he took an “Intro to Acting” class during his junior year as part of his graduation requirement. He then decided to change his career goals and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history. He then went on to study drama in England at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and then became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company before he shifted back to USA. He is the cousin of director Jay Chandrasekhar. Sendhil married actress Olga Sosnovska in 1999 and the couple has a daughter named Halina.
Sendhil started his acting career by working in theatre productions like A Servant of Two Masters, Indian Ink and East is East etc. He then moved on to work in four movies and nine television shows. On television he has acted in shows like In the Beginning, Ultimate Force, My Sexiest Mistake, Grey’s Anatomy and Numb3rs etc., besides appearing as Mohinder Suresh in Heroes. He has acted in the movies Little India, Death, Deceit & Destiny Aboard the Orient Express, Thanks to Gravity and Blind Dating. He has also appeared as himself on shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Heroes Report, Live with Regis and Kathie Lee and Heroes Unmasked etc.
Role In Heroes
In Heroes, he plays the role of Mohinder Suresh. He is a geneticist from India who travels to New York to take forward his father Chandra Suresh’s search of people with special abilities as well as learn more about his father’s killer. He is unaware that his father has been killed by Sylar, who was the first person with special powers to have met Chandra Suresh. Although initially he was devoid of any special powers, he later injected himself with a gene-altering formula to acquire enhanced strength, agility, and senses.
